Roald Dahl’s Matilda JR. is a 60-minute musical adaptation crafted for young performers. It tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinary, book-loving girl stuck with self-absorbed parents and sent to Crunchem Hall, a school ruled by the fearsome Headmistress Agatha Trunchbull. When Matilda discovers she has a mysterious power she can control with her mind, she begins to push back—first with clever pranks, then with a brave plan to set things right.

At school, Matilda finds kindness in her teacher, Miss Honey, whose gentle spirit hides a painful past connected to the Trunchbull. With the help of classmates like Lavender and Bruce, Matilda turns the tide from intimidation to imagination, confronting injustice in class, at home, and in Miss Honey’s life. Along the way, the show bursts with high-energy ensemble numbers, comic set pieces, and tender moments that celebrate reading, curiosity, and the courage to speak up.

Designed for large casts with flexible roles, Matilda JR. blends Dahl’s mischievous humor with heart, culminating in a joyous finale where kids reclaim their voices and adults learn a thing or two about listening.
