Summer Camp Q&A's
What is a teen summer camp intensive?
Our summer camp intensive is a great opportunity for young actors to participate in rehearsals and performances for an entire show during a 2 week period. Rehearsals happen 9am-4pm Monday-Friday for 2 weeks with 2-3 performances on the final weekend of camp.
Who is the teen summer camp intensive designed for?
This camp is designed for teens (Rising 7th graders through graduated 12th grade) that love to work hard, push themselves, and put on great performances of stage musicals.
Does my teen need prior theater experience?
YES. The prerequisite for this camp is having been in community theater or school theater style musical productions before. Teens need a working knowledge of theater basics, have performed in theater shows before, and should be able to hit the ground running the first day of camp. We are usually putting anywhere from 65-80 hours of rehearsal into 50 camp hours. So teens need to be able to keep up with the speed at which the actors need to learn their roles, songs, dances, and perfect their performances.
How do you cast the show?
The summer camp show is cast in early May about 1 month before camp. All registrants will come in to an audition where they will be given the chance to sing, dance, and act for the camp staff. Teens will be cast into available roles in the show and that will be posted a few days after. The following week we will meet with all the students to do a read through of the show and they will be given scripts to memorize their dialogue and song lyrics before we begin camp. Everyone attending camp will be cast in either a speaking/singing role or an ensemble role where they will sing and dance in large group numbers. Some ensemble members will be assigned smaller roles in the show. Students signing up for camp after auditions will be placed into the ensemble. Once auditions take place no refunds will be issued for any reason if your child cannot attend camp.
What kind of show titles do you perform?
Summer camp titles are usually 1hr - 1hr 20min versions of popular musical titles. These titles are normally Broadway Jr., Youth Editions or One Act versions of shows that appeal to teens. Previous camps have been titles such as Disney's Camp Rock (One Act), Disney's High School Musical 2 Jr, and Freaky Friday (One Act).
What if my child is too old for camp?
While we may not be able to cast your older child in a show we do look for summer camp interns 19 years old and up that love the theater and want to work as part of the staff. This is especially helpful for those college students who are working on theater or arts degrees. If you are interested in being part of the intern staff please email the office for more information.
